What is life coaching for adults?

Coaching for capable people who are running on empty

Life and career coaching for adults is one-on-one support for professionals who feel stuck on direction, stretched thin, or unable to follow through on what matters. A coach helps you get clear on what you want next, build a plan and a weekly system you can actually run, and stay accountable while you put it into action. It's practical and forward-looking. It isn't therapy, and you don't need a diagnosis.

Most professionals we work with have already tried the usual fixes: another planner, a new app, more late nights. The problem usually isn't effort. It's running everything on willpower, with no system that holds up when work and life get busy.

The goal: a week that works, without running on willpower.
Sound familiar?

Where professionals usually are when they reach out

  • I'm good at my job, and I'm bored out of my mind.Boreout drains you just like burnout does.
  • I'm exhausted, and I can't tell if it's the job or me.Burnout, or a career that no longer fits.
  • I want to change careers, but I don't know to what.Years of experience and no clear next move.
  • I keep dropping balls I used to catch.Deadlines, email, follow-ups and home all compete.
  • I run my own business, and it's running me.Too many hats and no structure to hold them.
  • I just found out I have ADHD, and a lot makes sense now.A late diagnosis, and old habits to rebuild.
What's going on underneath

Seven things that keep professionals stuck

These overlap. Most adults we meet have three or four at once, which is why a single productivity tip rarely sticks.

  • 1

    Running on willpower

No system for planning the week, so everything depends on energy and urgency.

  • 2

    Burnout or boreout

Exhausted by too much, or drained by too little challenge. Both stall you.

  • 3

A career that no longer fits

Your values, interests or life stage changed, but the job didn't.

  • 4

    Executive function at work

Prioritizing, starting, switching tasks and finishing. Common with ADHD, and common without it.

  • 5

    Fear of starting over

Golden handcuffs, sunk costs and not wanting to waste years of experience.

  • 6

Work and home spilling into each other

Work takes the evenings, home takes the mornings, and nothing gets your best.

  • 7

    Doing it alone

No one to think out loud with, and no one holding you to what you said you'd do.

How coaching works at LifeSketch

A clear process, a structure you can run, and a coach in your corner

A confident man leaning against a wall with his arms crossed
  1. Get clear

Where you are, where you want to be, and what's in the way, including whether to stay, adjust or change careers.

  2. Build the structure

A plan, a weekly rhythm and simple systems that fit your real calendar. We call it your Self-Operating System.

  3. Run it, with support

Regular 1:1 sessions for accountability and problem-solving, so a hard week doesn't undo your progress.

Structure without support falls apart, and support without structure drifts. Coaching gives you both.

Build a week you can actually run

You're not short on ideas or ambition. The problem is keeping everything moving without burning out. That's what a coaching season is built for.

  • A weekly rhythm and simple systems for planning and follow-through
  • Nine 1:1 sessions over 90 days with Scott or Emily
  • A checkpoint at the end: keep going, adjust or graduate

Questions

Coaching for adults FAQ

What does a life coach for adults actually do?

A coach helps you get clear on what you want, turn it into a plan, and build a weekly structure for following through. Sessions are practical: what happened this week, what got in the way, and what you'll do next.

Is this the same as executive coaching?

It overlaps. Corporate executive coaching is usually paid for by an employer and focused on your current role. We work with you as a whole person, on your career and your life, and your employer isn't involved unless you want it to be.

How is coaching different from therapy?

Therapy focuses on emotional health and often on understanding the past. Coaching focuses on what's next and how to get there. If anxiety or depression is the main issue, counseling is usually the better first step, and Colorado residents can see our associate clinicians.

Can coaching help with burnout?

Coaching helps when burnout comes from how your work and life are set up: too much on your plate, no system, or a career that no longer fits. If burnout has become anxiety or depression, start with counseling.

Can you help me change careers mid-career?

Yes. We help you get clear on what you want next, connect your experience to it, and run a focused search. The Job Search Accelerator is built for this.

Do I need an ADHD diagnosis?

No. Our coaching is ADHD-friendly, so it works well if you have ADHD or suspect you might. Many clients have no diagnosis at all.

Do you work with business owners?

Yes. Founders and self-employed clients use the coaching season to build a weekly system for running their work and the rest of their life.

How much does coaching for adults cost?

A 90-day coaching season is $3,500, or three monthly payments of $1,200. The Job Search Accelerator is $4,500 for about six months of coaching. The self-paced ADHD Career Change course is $197. Counseling in Colorado is $160 per session. The first call is free.

Is coaching online? Do you work outside Colorado?

Coaching is online from anywhere, or in person at our office in Littleton, Colorado. Counseling is for Colorado residents only.
