Symptoms of Burnout

What does burnout feel like?

  • Drained: Feeling mentally and emotionally exhausted while having no motivation, low energy, and lacking compassion or empathy.

  • Disengaged: Feeling dispassionate about work, distant from relationships, detached from self and void of meaning/purpose in life.

  • Negative Mindset: Frustrated, cynical, and pessimistic while quickly irritated or angry.

  • Stressed: Overwhelmed, anxious, and strained. Having difficulty sleeping due to overthinking or rumination.

  • Frustration: Ineffective and uncreative. Being unable to make a change or think clearly, take action or follow through

5 Common Signs of Burnout

What does burnout look like?

  • Waking Up With Dread: Every day is a battle when you struggle to get out of bed due to apprehension and anxiety.

  • Soul-Sucking Job: If you are trapped in a job you hate and find draining, boring and pointless.

  • Weakening Relationships: Frustrated, cynical, and pessimistic. Frequently defensive, irritated or angry.

  • Physically Strained: Trouble sleeping, frequent headaches, GI issues, and an overall increase in being sick.

  • Unproductive: Ineffective and uncreative. Feeling unable to make a change, think clearly (brain fog), take action or follow through.

So What is Burnout?

Burnout Syndrome is occupational and social impairment resulting from chronic stress and frustration overtime. There are three main categories for burnout.

  1. Exhaustion: Mental, emotional and physically fatigued.

  2. Negative Disengagement: Feeling cynical, depersonalized and detached from yourself and others. 

  3. Inefficacy: Unproductive and lacking motivation and meaning for your work, life, etc.
