The Fishing Guide

Targeted online applications that actually get seen — and a system that makes tailoring fast.

Fishing is your baseline, not your main play. A generic application lands an interview maybe 2–3% of the time — you're one fish in a crowded pond. The fix isn't casting more lines; it's casting smarter ones. Tailor to the catch you want, and the same effort starts to pay. You win on quality, not volume.

The move

The Protocol · 7 S's

One clean pass that turns a generic application into a targeted, professional one — without burning a whole day.

1Search — input specific criteria (title, location, level, keywords) to surface listings actually worth your time.
2Scan — read fast and disqualify. If it doesn't fit your targets or interest, skip it guilt-free.
3Select — apply where your qualifications and genuine interest actually overlap.
4Sync — tailor your résumé and letter to the posting's exact language (use the tool below).
5Submit — follow every instruction to the letter. The first test is "can you follow directions."
6Sustain — log it in your tracker with a follow-up date, then actually follow up.
7Secure — the goal isn't "applied," it's the interview. Everything serves that.

The 3-Résumé System

"Tailor every application" sounds exhausting until you build once and adapt fast. Three layers, and you only ever tweak the top one.

Layer 1 · the source

Master

Everything you've ever done — every role, win, skill, and number. You never send this. It's your library to pull from.

Layer 2 · the base

Niche

One near-ready résumé per role-family (e.g., "Program Manager"). Built from the Master, 80% there for any job in that lane.

Layer 3 · the cast

Targeted

The Niche, tuned to one posting in minutes — its keywords, its priorities. This is the only one you tailor each time.

⏱️

Why it works: the hard writing happens once (Master → Niche). After that, each application is a quick tune, not a rewrite — which is what makes "one tailored résumé per job" survivable.

The doing tool

The Tailoring Tool

Paste a job posting. Pull out its real keywords. Match each one to your proof. You'll walk away with a tailoring brief to build your Targeted résumé and letter from.

It surfaces likely keywords. You decide which matter — click to keep.

For each keyword you kept, write the proof that you have it — a bullet, a number, a project. Tick the box once it's in your Targeted résumé.

Keep some keywords above and they'll show up here to match.

Where to cast

Your Search Channels

Don't live on one job board. Spread your line across the spots where your roles actually surface.

4
Close the loop

Log Every Cast

An application you don't track is an application you'll forget to follow up on — and follow-up is half the ROI.

🎣

Every submission becomes one row in your Job Search Tracker (Strategy = Fishing) with a Follow-Up By date. When that date turns orange, the Communicator sends the nudge. Nothing sinks to the bottom of the pond.
